App that locks Instagram/TikTok until I finish my homework
Updated
RemindLock is an iPhone reminder app that keeps Instagram, TikTok or any apps you pick locked from the time your homework is due until you type "I did" and the homework, like "I did Math worksheet", or take a photo of it.
Set it up in RemindLock
- Grant Screen Time permission. It's the individual kind, for your own phone, not parental controls.
- Pick Instagram, TikTok and any games you want locked.
- Allow notifications.
- Create a reminder such as "Math worksheet" with the time it's due.
- Optional: set the first tiny step, e.g. "Open the worksheet and do question 1".
- Optional: set repeat to weekdays for a school-night routine. Each occurrence locks on its own.
- At the due time, opening a locked app shows the block screen with that first step, or the title if you skipped it.
- Unlock by typing "I did Math worksheet". Up to 2 typos are forgiven.
Typing is the default. You can instead set a reminder's unlock method to photo and take a photo of the finished work with the camera, not from the library.
Why it works on homework
The lock ends when the homework is done, not when a timer runs out, so it can't just be waited out.
The block screen shows the first tiny step, so the thing in front of you when you reach for TikTok is the place to start.
After practice: "Can't do it now"
If you get home late from practice, tap Can't do it now, pick a specific new time at least 15 minutes out, and type why not now (an example reason like "at practice until 6" is fine).
This is allowed twice per reminder, and for a weekday repeat that means twice per occurrence, so each school night starts fresh. It's a normal choice, not a failure.
See how it works for dropping a reminder and the daily emergency unlock, so there's always a way out.
Only you set it up
RemindLock uses Apple's Screen Time permission for individuals, which you grant on your own iPhone. It isn't a parent app, and you choose which apps lock.
Your reminders and reasons stay on your phone, with no account.
You can still text a classmate
Phone and Messages are never locked, so you can still text a classmate about the assignment. Apps you mark as always allowed in Settings stay open too.
